Mothers in Transition


Mothers/Parents in Transition is a national organization dedicated to supporting parents of transgender/gender-expansive children in custody disputes with unsupportive ex-partners through collaborative research, education, and advocacy.


Mothers/Parents in Transition envisions family court outcomes that affirm transgender and gender-expansive youth, and their supportive parents.

Cammy Bellis


In 2013, Cammy Bellis founded Mothers/Parents in Transition and since then has helped affirming parents around the country engaged in custody disputes with unsupportive ex-partners. She earned a Master of Educational Psychology with an emphasis in social justice education in 2010.

She is the former director of the Transgender Education Program at Arizona State University, where she also created the first course of its kind on transgender youth and families. She has developed trainings on LGBTQ+ inclusion in health care, education, and law for the last 14 years and is the is the lead author of a toolkit for medical and mental health providers on navigating care for transgender/gender-expansive youth in family court cases and examining the social determinants of physical and mental health for this vulnerable group.

Cammy has won numerous awards for her work, including the 2020 Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP) LGBT Health Professional Leadership Award.
