Youth Name Change Grants

Thanks to a grant awarded by the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, AZTYPO is able to offer financial support to facilitate a legal name change for low-income families of transgender and gender diverse youth.

To qualify, families must meet criteria set out by the Arizona Superior Courts and must be awarded a deferral of court fees by the judge at the time of the name change.

Sound hard? You’re the parent of a trans kid! This is a walk in the park.

The Grant Process:

  1. Check to see if you qualify for a deferral or waiver.

Families who receive Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), food stamps, or Federal or state legal aid services qualify for a waiver. Families who receive government assistance from the federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program qualify for fee deferral.

Other economic situations will be considered by the court on a case-by-case basis. See the link in Step #3 below.

  2. Email us at for approval for the grant.

We’ll have a brief phone conversation to discuss the grant and to help answer any questions you might have about the next steps.

BOTH applications must be filed with the county court at the same time.
